Ted Cruz is the senior U.S. Senator from Texas, having represented the state since 2013. Born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Cruz is the son of Cuban and American parents. He graduated from Princeton University and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School. After clerking for Judge J. Michael Luttig and Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Cruz served as Texas Solicitor General, arguing nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He later practiced law at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. 

With a background in law and government, Cruz has been a vocal supporter of policies that foster a business-friendly environment and encourage venture capital investment across emerging industries. He understands the critical role that startups and innovation hubs play in driving job creation and maintaining the competitiveness of the Texas economy.
